Can I use Numbing Cream on my tattoo?

Can I use numbing cream for a tattoo?

Yes!You can get numbing cream over the counter, Emla is often the more common one. Simply clean the skin down with alcohol (sanitizer works well) once the area is dry, apply a thick layer of cream over the reserved  area and cling wrap it. Apply the cream about 45mins prior to your appointment.

This is only recommended for smaller tattoos in more painful areas (knees, shine, feet, hands ect). Most numbing agents last about 45mins-1 hour.

For larger tattoos, we recommend a numbing gel, used during the tattoo process only once the pain becomes a bit more uncomfortable. This gel can only be used on “broken” skin (an area you just tattooed eg. Line work) so it is not effective as a before agent.

Can I use Numing Cream For My Piercing?

You can ;however because a piercing goes past the surface, it may help but it will not numb the entire area. 

Alternatively you may spray ice water over the pierced area after the piercing. This will help with the inflammation and swelling.

If a tattoo is done with white ink alone it may not appear visible to many and over time it will appear yellow. 

In conclusion it can be done, but it is not recommended

The legal age in South Africa is 16 years with parental consent for tattoos. We do ;however recommend waiting until after high school. We very seldom do tattoos for minors, even with a parent present.
