What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes the skin to produce new cells too quickly.

This can lead to red, irritated, dry and flaky patches that can appear anywhere on the body — including around the ears.

✨ Psoriasis is not contagious.

Can you get piercings with psoriasis?

Yes, you may be able to get pierced with psoriasis.

However, there are a few important things to consider:

• Avoid piercing through active psoriasis or a flare-up.

• Irritated skin may be more sensitive and can make healing more challenging.

• Your piercer should assess the area before piercing.

• Choosing quality jewellery, such as implant-grade titanium, is important.

If your psoriasis is severe or currently flaring, speak to your healthcare professional before getting pierced.

Aftercare while healing

Keep your piercing simple and gentle. 🤍

• Clean with sterile saline as recommended.

• Avoid touching, twisting or playing with the jewellery.

• Don’t pick at flakes or crusting around the piercing.

• Avoid putting creams, oils or psoriasis treatments directly into the piercing unless advised by your healthcare professional.

• Avoid pressure and friction — especially while sleeping.

• Keep an eye out for increased redness, swelling, pain or discharge.

Every piercing heals differently. Listen to your skin.

A healed piercing still needs a little TLC. ✨

• Continue gentle cleaning when needed.

• Keep the surrounding skin moisturised if your skin becomes dry — avoid getting creams inside the piercing channel.

• Be aware of psoriasis flare-ups around the jewellery.

• Don’t force jewellery through a piercing if it feels tight or irritated.

• Choose high-quality, body-safe jewellery.

Healthy skin + quality jewellery + proper care = happy piercings. 🤍
